Objective:

The aim of this project was to conduct an in-depth analysis of the UEFA Champions League, focusing on various key performance metrics. Using Tableau, the project sought to uncover insights into the top players, clubs, and coaches in the history of the tournament. The analysis included metrics such as player appearances, club performances, all-time winners, goal statistics, coaching records, and country- wise title wins.

Methodology:

Data Preparation and Cleansing: Utilizing Excel, I meticulously cleaned and prepared a dataset specific to the Champions League, ensuring accuracy and reliability for the subsequent analysis.

Data Analysis and Visualization: The project primarily involved analyzing and visualizing the data in Tableau to extract meaningful insights. Key areas of focus included:

  • Top 10 players by appearances.
  • Top clubs by games played.
  • All-time winners ranking.
  • Top 10 players by goals scored.
  • Top 10 coaches by appearances.
  • Top clubs by goals scored.
  • Total titles won by country.

    Technical Tools/Software:

  • Excel: Used for data cleaning and preprocessing.
  • Tableau: The primary tool for data analysis and visualization, enabling the creation of interactive and insightful dashboards.

    Conclusion:

  • Cristiano Ronaldo happened to be the player with most appearances/goals ratio.

  • In terms of club, Real Madrid appeared to be the team with most games played and the team with most goals scored. With a total of 128 appearances and 508 goals.

  • Revealed the top clubs not only in terms of games played and goals scored but also highlighted their overall success in the tournament. In which Real Madrid and Milan happened to be the teams with most effectiveness of trophies in terms of tournament appearances.

  • Showcased the all-time winners, giving a clear picture of Real Madrid, Milam. Liverpool and Bayern’s dominance over the years.

  • Analyzed the top 10 coaches, shedding light on the most successful managerial careers in the Champions League. We can highlight Alex Ferguson and Carlo Ancelotti as the managers with the most games/wins ratio.

  • Presented a country-wise breakdown of total titles won, illustrating the geographical dominance of Spain, Italy and England in European football.
